Media Release: Table Top community keeps up push for safer Hume intersection

Table Top community keeps up push for safer Hume intersection

Member for Albury Justin Clancy has joined representatives of the Table Top Safe Interchange Action Group in reiterating calls for urgent and long-term safety improvements at the Hume Highway intersections with Tynan and Burma Roads.

As Transport for NSW progresses design considerations for safety improvements at the intersection, Mr Clancy has facilitated a meeting between Regional Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison and Action Group representatives Brent Smith and Sue Gugger to ensure the community’s concerns and priorities were heard directly.

Mr Clancy said the meeting reinforced the need for both immediate action and a long-term solution.

“Safety at this intersection remains a significant concern for the Table Top community, and Brent, Sue and the Action Group have worked incredibly hard to keep this issue front and centre,” Mr Clancy said.

“We reiterated to the Minister that our ultimate goal remains a full grade separated interchange and urged the Government to ensure an interchange is included in the strategic planning for this important corridor.

“At the same time, we need to see progress on practical safety improvements now. Importantly, improving safety cannot simply mean closing the intersection and walking away from the needs of the community.

“I appreciate the Minister meeting with us and hearing these concerns directly. We will continue to engage constructively with the Government and keep advocating for a solution that delivers both safety and appropriate access for the Table Top community.”

Table Top Community Intersection Action Group representative Brent Smith said the community wanted to see a clear pathway towards a safer intersection.

“Our community has been raising these concerns for a long time. We want to see immediate measures that reduce the risks people face today, while ensuring the long-term solution, a properly designed grade separated interchange, remains firmly on the agenda,” Mr Smith said.

Action Group representative Sue Gugger said continued community involvement would be important.

“This is about the safety of local families and everyone who uses this section of the Hume,” Ms Gugger said.

“We appreciate the opportunity to put our concerns directly to the Minister. We will keep working together as a community and with Justin to make sure this issue continues to be heard and acted upon.”

Mr Clancy said he and the Action Group would continue taking the matter up with the NSW Government.

“This won’t be resolved overnight, but we are united in what we are seeking meaningful safety improvements now and a long-term solution that serves this growing community into the future.”
