2021-22 NSW BUDGET

 Member for Albury, Justin Clancy today welcomed the NSW Budget, saying “We are not yet free of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic but the strength of this government is shown in its capacity to protect the health of its residents, while maintaining an open state and supporting businesses and jobs.

“This Budget is all about bedding down a safe and strong recovery, bettering the nation’s best services and driving growth into the future for a better quality of life for you and your family.”

Highlights for the Albury Electorate

  • $3 million for Albury Racing Club stables
  • $1.96 million for social housing upgrades and new building works
  • $5.4 million for the Corowa Saleyards redevelopment
  • $4.3 million for the Nexus precinct
  • $0.3 million for Henty highway intersection and rail crossing project
  • Nolan House rebuild
  • Additional funding for NSW Cross Border Commissioner

Highlights for all of us in NSW

  • The NSW economy is rebounding rapidly with 300,000 jobs added since the height of the pandemic in mid-2020.
  • The Budget forecasts above trend economic growth of 3.25 per cent for 2021-22 and unemployment, currently at 5 per cent, falling to 4.5 per cent by 2024-25.
  • Improved economic conditions have contributed to the State’s strengthened operating position, with a return to surplus of $0.5 billion now forecast in 2024-25. 
  • Job creation remains a key focus with a record $108.5 billion infrastructure investment helping supercharge the recovery.
  • Hundreds of thousands of hard-working public sector workers such as nurses will receive a significant wage increase of up to 2.5 per cent, which is forecast to cost approximately $2.7 billion over four years.
  • Important cost savings measures for families, including $43.9 million for a new $100 Learn to Swim voucher for children aged between three and six, and $150 million for the Free Preschool program to continue until the end of 2022.
  • The refreshed Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Regional Procurement Policy includes an exemption that allows Government agencies to directly procure goods and services from an SME or regional business up to $150,000.
  • Our response to the independent NSW Bushfire Inquiry will lift by a further $268.2 million over four years to a total of more than $460 million, in partnership with the Commonwealth, adding firefighting drones, aerial firefighting, enhanced strategic fire trails and improvements to local emergency infrastructure and equipment.
  • A new $200 million multi-sport community infrastructure fund.
