Applications Open for the $100 Million  Stronger Country Communities Across Regional NSW

Sporting teams across regional NSW will benefit from new and improved facilities and regional towns will soon see even more investment in community infrastructure and programs that will make a big difference to everyday life in the bush, thanks to the $100 million Stronger Country Communities Fund Round Four.

Member for Albury Justin Clancy MP today announced applications are now open for projects that improve female sports facilities, local amenities, and improve health and well-being.

Mr Clancy said up to $50 million is dedicated to the delivery of female sports facilities and programs, to encourage greater female participation across all levels and codes across regional NSW.

“We’ve already seen the benefits that the Stronger Country Communities Fund has delivered to our communities, such as the Howlong Football and netball clubroom upgrades and the resurfacing of the Jindera Netball courts.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro and Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the NSW Government’s commitment to delivering better facilities is another step towards levelling the playing field for girls and women in sport.

Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government will make a big difference in the bush by delivering new and improved facilities and female centric programs for all girls and women in remote, rural and regional communities.

“A lack of adequate amenities, especially for females, can often be a barrier to participation so by improving and building purpose-fit facilities and developing  programs, girls and women will feel more welcome, safe, included and encouraged to regularly participate in sports and active recreation,” Mr Barilaro said.

Mrs Taylor said providing facilities, particularly women’s changerooms, ensures all female athletes are supported from grassroots to elite level to participate in the widest range of sports.

“Purpose-fit facilities should be standard and not an exception, and better amenities will help address this barrier and encourage girls and women to participate in the sports and activities they enjoy and want to play,” Mrs Taylor said.

Applications for Stronger Country Communities Fund Round Four opens 1 May 2021 and closes on 25 June, 2021. For more information, including program guidelines and eligibility criteria, visit: www.nsw.gov.au/SCCF
