Expanded dialysis services a win for Albury–Wodonga patients
The expansion of renal dialysis services at Albury Wodonga Health is a welcome and long-overdue investment for patients across our region.
The $4.4 million investment will expand the Wodonga Campus Renal Dialysis Unit and add new dialysis care points at the Albury Campus, meaning more patients can access life-sustaining treatment closer to home and fewer acutely unwell patients will need to be transferred between campuses.
This is an issue I have raised repeatedly in Parliament and consistently advocated for alongside Albury Wodonga Health with both governments, including working closely with the NSW Health Minister to highlight the urgent need for increased dialysis capacity on both sides of the border.
Dialysis care is not optional, it is essential. This investment will improve safety, reduce travel, and deliver better outcomes for patients and families across the Albury–Wodonga region.
I acknowledge the Board and Executive of Albury Wodonga Health, clinicians, and the patients who rely on dialysis services and who have powerfully shared their experiences to highlight the need for this investment.
This is one more step, and I will continue to advocate for coordinated cross-border health planning to ensure our regional communities get the services they need, when and where they need them.
