FUEL SECURITY PLAN NEEDED AS REGIONAL CONCERNS GROW
The NSW Liberals and Nationals have recommitted to delivering a Fuel Security and Resilience Strategy if elected in 2027.
The NSW Fuel Security & Resilience Strategy would :
- strengthen NSW against future supply shocks,
- assess the need to expand fuel storage capacity,
- examine opportunities for domestic fuel production, including low-carbon fuels, and
- better map the links between electricity, gas and liquid fuels
Justin Clancy, Member for Albury said the approach was grounded in the findings of the NSW Chief Scientist’s Energy Preparedness Assessment, which highlighted vulnerabilities in the state’s energy system.
‘That report has been sitting with the Minns Labor Government for almost a year,’ Mr Clancy said.
‘Other states are acting to secure supply and build resilience, but NSW is still playing catch-up.’
Mr Clancy said fuel security was not just an energy issue, but a regional, economic and cost-of-living issue.
‘Fuel keeps farms running, trucks moving, and essential services operating, including patient transport and community care,’ he said.
‘We are in a different environment now, one where global events can quickly impact fuel supply, costs and the availability of critical inputs like fertiliser.’
‘When supply is uncertain or costs spike, the impact flows through the entire community.’
‘Regional communities deserve confidence that fuel will be there when they need it, and that we are better prepared for future shocks,’ he said.
