December 12, 2022New Domestic Violence refuge in Albury
Alongside the amazing Di Glover and the team at YES Unlimited, as well as many good people in the community, I have been advocating over the last three years for a new domestic violence refuge in Albury that reflects contemporary design principles and one that will provide a space for healing and security.
This advocacy has included bringing a number of ministers to Betty’s Place, a beloved but ageing facility with a number of limitations.
Today the NSW Government announced funding to build a new refuge under its Core and Cluster program.
This comes at the right time for our community.
This project will be delivered by Housing Plus and managed by YES Unlimited.
It is a major step forward in our support of women and families impacted by domestic violence.
My thanks and appreciation go to Di Glover and the team at YES Unlimited for their tireless work and their compassion for the most vulnerable in our community in their time of great need.
This project is funded through the largest investment in domestic and family violence supports in NSW history and will provide long-term infrastructure to support women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
