Member for Albury Justin Clancy has today announced that young people in the Albury Electorate will benefit from a $1.5 million NSW Government grant program which aims to boost youth engagement across the state. Selected from hundreds of applicants across the state, Murray Conservatorium received a grant of $47,116 to deliver a program in which several choral groups will reach disadvantaged young people in the community in 2020. The Con will also implement a plan to train and employ young people as music teachers, who will be mentored and supported by experienced Con staff. Mr Clancy said Murray Conservatorium would help young people in the Albury Electorate to create strong community connections. “This is a youth-led initiative where young people can take an active role in identifying, designing and implementing projects suited to their needs,” Mr Clancy said. “I look forward to seeing the results of their work come to life.” Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said Murray Conservatorium is one of 36 successful applicants across NSW. “We’re committed to engaging young people by providing positive opportunities that help them improve their wellbeing and thrive into adulthood,” Mr Ward said. “These grants are the perfect platform to promote valuable and innovative ideas and I’m pleased to see so many outstanding projects receive Youth Opportunities funding.” Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women Bronnie Taylor said more than half of successful projects stem from regional and rural NSW. “Youth are the lifeblood of regional communities across our state and we want to give them every opportunity to showcase what they’ve got to offer,” Ms Taylor said. Since establishing the Youth Opportunities program in 2012, almost $12 million has been invested in more than 280 projects. For more information, visit https://www.youth.nsw.gov.au/youth-opportunities
