Federal Funding Secures Completion of the Holbrook Levee
The Holbrook community is set to benefit with $1,653,600 in federal funding secured under Round 3 of the Disaster Ready Fund for the completion of the Holbrook Levee. The Greater Hume Council will also contribute $413,400, bringing the total project investment to more than $2 million.
Member for Albury, Justin Clancy, welcomed the announcement, saying the project will significantly strengthen the community’s resilience during times of heavy rainfall and flooding.
“The Holbrook Levee is a vital piece of local infrastructure that protects homes, businesses and essential services. This funding ensures the final stage can now be delivered, providing long-term security for the Holbrook community,” Mr Clancy said.
Mr Clancy acknowledged the support of NSW Minister for Emergency Services, Janelle Saffin, and Federal Minister for Regional Development, Kristy McBain, in securing the funding.
“I thank Minister Saffin and Minister McBain for recognising the importance of this project to improve flood protection for the community of Holbrook,” he said.
The Disaster Ready Fund is a joint initiative aimed at reducing the impacts of natural disasters by supporting locally led mitigation projects that safeguard communities.
Mayor of Greater Hume Council, Lea Parker welcomed the funding to facilitate the construction of the final stage, providing improved flood protection from the Ten Mile Creek floodplain at Holbrook's southern end.
"Council is excited to complete the flood mitigation work in Holbrook. Finalizing this project will safeguard and help build resilience in our community"
Greater Hume Council will now progress the final design and construction phases to complete the Holbrook Levee, ensuring the town is better prepared for future flood events.
