NSW PROVIDES PLANNING MONEY FOR ALBURY HOSPITAL
Member for Albury Justin Clancy today announced NSW government funding of $300,000 to help fast-track planning for future health services for the community.
Mr Clancy said the funding has been allocated to Albury Wodonga Health to ensure planning for a number of projects can begin soon.
This funding follows on from the Health Roundtable hosted by Mr Clancy and Member for Benambra, Bill Tilley which called for an updated clinical services plan sharing information between AWH, clinicians and community, in turn informing and developing a master plan.
“With the Clinical Service Plan nearing completion it’s fantastic that we can now advance to the next stage of planning for more health infrastructure for the Albury Wodonga communities,” Mr Clancy said.
“The funding will allow us to deliver the best possible health services for the region into the future, so community members can receive treatment closer to home.”
Chairman of Albury Wodonga Health Mr Matt Burke said “the $300,000 funding provided will support the development of Albury Wodonga Health’s masterplan”
“This is essential for determining our infrastructure requirements to support the delivery of services to our community for the next 20 years”
The announcement follows a $30 million funding boost by the NSW Government to upgrade Albury Hospital’s emergency department, which is expected to be completed by late 2022. The Victorian Government contributed $6 million towards the upgrade.
The NSW Government has also already committed $45 million for Albury Hospital’s expansion to allow future work on the intensive care unit, additional surgical theatres and more beds.
The new emergency department will provide:
The hospital expansion will benefit more than 250,000 people living in the border communities of Albury and Wodonga.
“We have one of the busiest emergency departments in regional Australia, so it’s crucial that residents can access critical health services quickly,” Mr Clancy said.
In 2020-21, the NSW Government will spend more than $900 million on health capital works in regional and rural communities throughout New South Wales.
